DHCP on VLANs

Is it possible to use one DHCP server on multiple VLANs? I’ve tried it once, configured the scope of different VLANs but I get an invalid address (not the correct VLAN). Are there any re-configurations I need to do? Is there any hardware I need to buy? By the way I use cisco switches.
