DHCP Server on NT 4.0 – BAD_ADDRESS

by dean . Updated 25 years, 3 months ago

Where I work we have a DSL connection to the internet and use SonicWall as our firewall. As part of the fire wall it can work as the DHCP server and has been working well for a number of months. But I am trying to use DHCP Server on NT 4.0 since Ithought it would be a little easier to use and it has more options. I disable DHCP on the SonicWall then go to my NT Server to Setup DHCP. Setting up DHCP manager is pretty cut and dry. Enter in my range, under DHCP Scope – Global I enter the default gateway address under Router option and the DNS addresses under DNS Servers option and it all looks good. The numbers for the default gateway and DNS servers are good because I have double checked them, beside I don’t think problem is with these numbers.

After configuring DHCP on NT the following happens. Three or four computers in the office says there is a conflict with the address that it has been given and gives a MAC address. And these are the only four computers that are on outof the 15 we have. The MAC address each one gives does not match any of the computer that are on and the IP address each computer has is different. I take a look at the active leases in the DHCP manager (on NT Server) and all of the 150 possible address that can be given say BAD_ADDRESS after each one except for the four computers that are on, there I see the computer names after each one of the addresses. Where is this BAD_ADDRESS coming from?

I have removed and gone through the setup twice with the same result. I am stumped I hope someone can help me out.

Thanks!!
