I have a compaq presario 7360 running windows 2000. I had no sound. I had help getting ESS Allegro PCI audio recognized as running on computer, but still, no sound. I purchased a new Magic Sound PCI sound card. It is compatable with 2000. I also bought a new MPCII cd-rom cable to run from cd rom drive to new sound card. Installed the hardware but the software will not fully load because I am not sure how to disable original sound card that cannot be removed. I tried going to device manager and clicking disable on the old ESS Allegro but when I try to install the new card with sound card installation cd I/O magic. It finds the driver stuff but will not complete because I keep getting message to insert ESS WDM driver disk. What is proper procedure to disable original sound card? Please help, this is driving me crazy!
