Disabling SNMP on printer causes printer to go offline.

by wardw . Updated 16 years, 9 months ago

I have multiple printers configured on a Windows 2003 server. On some printers, when I disable the SNMP protocol, the printers show offline and will not print. As soon as I enable SNMP, they will go back online and start to print. As part of a security audit, I am charged with disabling SNMP on all printers. The majority of the printers are HP printers with either JetDirect cards or external print servers. I have disabled all other protocols except Port 9100,telnet and TCP/IP. I can’t seem to find a solution for this. Can anyone help?
