Disconnects While uploading

Using Cute FTP server, clients are having a problem with uploading to my FTP server in that the connection suddenly drops. The ftp connection is usning SSL. There is a mix of client side ftp apps this is happening with including Filezilla, WSFTP Pro, cute ftp client, etc. While it certainly could be an ISP issue, I am suspiciouse it is not. Any thoughts?
