Displaying traps or events on a Cisco 6500

Currently, we have a Cisco 6500 that doesn’t display linkup/linkdown traps. It does display logs when you save your configuration only. I have played around with the logging buffer/monitor/trap with no results. I know the solution must be simple but I cant find anything on the web.
