DNS Help with 2 AD Domains

by blocke . Updated 18 years, 2 months ago

I have two Domains: (one for office automation and one for “production”.) They are separate because if the office automation domain has problems, we want to be able to isolate the production domain. The only resource the production domain users need from the OA domain is e-mail. Right now, the production users have to login to the production domain and also authenticate to Outlook via the OA domain… but they don’t use any other resources on the OA domain.
The production domain is NT4. The OA domain is AD. I’m migrating the NT4 domain to AD. I thought about doing a child domain but decided to keep production and OA separate, so I migrated the NT4 domain into a new AD domain.
But I have a question about setting up DNS. Initially I’ve set up the production domain W2K3 server as it’s own DNS name space. I’m thinking since I have two different domains, I should have two different DNS architectures. But perhaps delegate the DNS namespace for the production domain to the OA domain? But I’m not sure if I do that, if I’ll have problems isolating the production domain if necessary.
Should I just build a completely separate DNS namespace for the production domain?
