DNS Issue

by kmjfoster . Updated 18 years, 5 months ago

Ok, here is my issue.

I have two domain controllers at my HQ location and one at my remote location. They are both behind firewalls, but to make things easy for replication the ports were opened so that it is a flat Active Directory. My issue no is that my DNS at HQ will update with IP for my DC that is at my remote location. That is a problem since we cannot see those internal IP’s. So, we went ahead and did NAT so that the external IP we give it will translate which seems to work fine, but DNS will always update with that DC’s internal IP, causing DNS and replication errors.

Do I go ahead and make that remote server a seondary DNS server and point it back to my DNS at my HQ so that it will not update it’s IP? I’m a bit stuck here but am sure there is an easy fix for this.
