DNS on Windows 2003 server

I would be grateful for any help anyone can give me!

I have a Windows Server 2003 running Active Domain and configured as a DNS server. The server and all PCs are running on a NAT, behind a DSL modem router/gateway. The router is set up as the DCHP server. The server’s only roles is that of a file server and print server. The gateway’s (NAT) IP address is 192.168.0.1 and the server’s is 192.168.0.2. It takes over 15 mins for an XP Pro PC to log onto the domain with the PC set to get IP address & DNS automatically. After log on is achieved the PC works normally. If the DNS is set to the server’s IP address log on is instantaneous.

What is wrong (with the server’s DNS setting)?
