Do HDs sharing an IDE cable run slower?

by mguerreiro . Updated 23 years, 7 months ago

I am adding another hard disc to my system. While I have available IDE connectors on my motherboard, I am tempted to install the new drive as a “slave” to share the IDE cable with the existing drive in order to reduce case clutter and improve air flow. My question is, will two drives sharing an IDE cable run more slowly than the same drives installed as “masters” with their own separate cables?
