do you or do you not delete???

if you were using a lmhost or host file for name resolution on a Win9.x or nt/2000 system, and you then transferred to a DNS server for name resolution do you or do you not delete the lmhosts and or hosts files for the DNS server to properly work? I am a computer networking student in college who recently took the Network + exam and failed by 50points… this was one of the questions I would like to get an answer to prior to retaking the test… thanks in advance.
