Does IE misreport browser information?

I have a script in an ASP page that uses MSWC.BrowserType to perform browser detection. Does IE 5.5 not report itself as 5.5? No matter what 5.* version I use, it always reports the .majorver as 5 and the .minorver as 0. Is there a way around this?
