Does using different nic cards

We are about to buy some new pc’s for our network. We are currently using 3-com switches which has a gigabyte link. I was told that if we don’t use 3-com nic cards in the new PC’s it will affect performance. We are currently using Intel pro cards, which where already in our older PC’s, before the switches were installed. Will using differnet nics affect performance off the network??
