Domain Controller as a File Server

I’m setting up domain controller using Active Directory and i’m trying to set up my server as a File Server.
My question is, can this be done ? As from what I have told, it is better to create different role of servers.
Will this effect the security policy ? Will it affects the file server security policy and the Domain Controller security policy ??
