domain controller problem

There are two domain controllers on my network. Both run together acting in multi-master modec. One is running 2k3 and the other is 2k, but are configured to run in mixed mode. If I downgrade one to a stand alone server will the active directory and roles automatically be controlled by the remaining domain controller?
