Domain Controller with public IP opened to port 555

Hi, we have a win2k3 domain controller that is running a program that requires port 5555 to be opened on the firewall. Currently the domain controller is closed off to to the outside. Is there any risk of opening up port 5555 to the internet? I always thought domain controllers should never be exposed to the outside world.
