domain name

I have upgraded a NT 4 bdc to W2K server, then promoted to primary controller. When doing the upgrade was forced to call domain name VGEI.com instead of old domain name VGEI. Since the installation, users are able to log on however it takes approx2 minutes to log on after credentials have been entered. Also I am unable to add global users to local client computer groups. Any suggestions?
