domain profile and admin domain cannot log onto laptop

We configured a XP Pro laptop for a user. The user’s profile could not not log on to the network/domain, nor could logging on to the laptop, user: administratorr/password work on the domain (Win 2003 server). On above XP laptop, we removed the user from the domain and selected work group > restarted the computer > removed from work group > selected domain then user was able to access the domain. The above seems to be the procedure every time the user wants to log on to the domain. Any advise/suggestions would be appreciated?
