DoS Attack: ACK Scan, what is this and how to stop it?

“DoS Attack: ACK Scan” and “DoS Attack: RST Scan”
I have been getting a denial of service from DoS Attack, I am getting frustrated from loss of access to the internet. I would like to learn what DoS Attack is, and know how to stop this from happening?
