This may be a silly question or maybe it has been discussed before, but I work for a VERY small company (5 users at this point) that is currently running an Exchange 2003 server. This server and network was set up by the then current IT manager who is gone now and has also been worked on by a third party IT consultant. It’s in bad shape at this point. Dozens of former user accounts, large email boxes for both current and former employees (all of which are being kept just in case an email is needed in the future) and a whole host of user policies that are, in my opinion hurting more than helping at this point. It’s a case of “too many cooks” in this servers history.
So my question is, we’re so small and I should say that while I have an Associates Degree in IT it’s not my primary function here, that my boss is thinking that we should get rid of our server entirely to get rid of the overhead and just go with a SOHO network.
Aside from the main concerns of making sure files and emails are backed up has anyone been in this position? Obviously security would be the major concern, but any other thoughts? Suggestions?
