Drive mapping

by ufs00083 . Updated 25 years, 3 months ago

I have the following:
——————–
1 LinkSys DSL/Cable modem router
1 Win2k Server
3 Win98

Recently I have set up a home network. All these PCs are linked togather and connected to the internet with a Linksys DSL/Cable modem router. Iuse AT&T cable modem service.
All PCs are using internal IP address.

My question is :
————–
Scenenario 1:
Suppose I have a remote PC in my office and I want to use the resources from my PC at home.I am able to map a drive at a remotestation with my Win2k server (ADS installed). The command line I used is “net use y: \\209.223.12.120\shared /user:dummyguy” instead of using NetBIOS name. FYI I can “ping remotePC” and return me the ip address as 209.223.12.120. WINS is installed and LMHOSTS in WIn2K. How can I map the drive using NetBIOS name?

Scenenario 2:

For the rest Win98 machine, I cannot even map the remote share drive. Neither “net use y: \\209.223.12.120\shared /user:dummyguy” nor “net use y: \\remotePC\shared /user:dummyguy” will work in Win98 environment. All the Win98 machine logs on into Win2k domain. For one thing I can ping the remotePC with NetBIOS name.
How can I solve this problem?

Thanks
