Dual Channel Memory

by maggot . Updated 17 years, 3 months ago

I recently bought a new main board that supports dual channel memory usage. The owner of the store was kinda busy and explained it briefly. What I got was… When the two memory banks are used (blue colored) dual channel memory will come into play if the modules are of same speed and size. If a module is added to the third bank dual channel memory usage won’t be enabled.

He told me that when dual channel memory is enabled that the total memory will be the sum of the modules used…. if two 512 MB modules are used the system memory will equal 512 MB not 1024MB. He also told me that special (dual channel memory) memory isn’t needed that it is a main board function.

The main board is a Asus A7N8X revision 2.00 The manual doesn’t really give any particulars on the subject.

Perhaps I could get a quick primer on dual channel memory and this main board.

Thanks in advance.
