Dual CPU desktops

Can someone tell us which motherboard is recommended,for symmetric multiple processors for desk top PCs using Intel P111 or AMD Athlon around 1 GHZ CPU. Recommended OS to use with the above, how to purchase CPUs and the benefits, how to configure so that the motherboard is actually using both CPUs simultaneously for faster processing in a multitasking environment.
