Dual Monitor/Expanded Desktop w/Win2kPro

by sewrobe . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

I have a laptop PC with an external monitor connected. The Laptop PC is running Windows 2000 Pro and I would like to get the laptop PC to use the external monitor to expand the Windows 2000 Pro desktop. The Laptop PC is supported by Microsoft (on the Win2K HCL) and I have updated the laptop PC’s Bios to the most current version.

Microsoft and the PC vendor recommend using an additional video card with the laptop PC. I have followed Microsoft’s and the PC manufacturer’s guidelines but havenot been successful.

I have gotten a Desktop/Tower PC with an additional video card (for Dual Monitors) to work.

I can get the laptop PC to work correctly under Windows 98 where the external monitor shows up as a second monitor and can be configured to expand the desktop space. Under Windows 2000 Pro, the external monitor is only mentioned as Multiple monitors on the laptop’s video card and will only show a second copy of the laptop screen display. When I install a second video card in a Docking Station, I only get video to the Docking Station video card and nothing from the Laptop PC video port.

Has anyone been able to get this Windows 2000 Pro feature to work on a laptop PC? If so, what laptop PC model and video combination?
