I work in an “In House” Technical Support desk for a major utilities company in Australia.
We take calls from the company relating to all of our internal systems and troubleshoot and escalate issues on an as needs basis. We cover off everything from Active Directory Password Resets to Remote assistancing machines, Setting file permissions on servers, etc, etc. We are the front point of contact and generally can resolve most issues here at the service desk without further escalation of issues.
In addition to this. I myself also manage our Helpdesk System (Altiris). What i am after, is some suggestions to help justify a dual monitor setup on our machines here in the service desk. My Boss says its a niceity, we beleive that its a bit more than that.
When we are remote assistancing computers (Something we do numerous times a day) it is very very handy to have a second monitor, so that we can transcribe things from one screen to the other if we are viewing information on a users computer. It is also good to be able to remote desktop into servers whilst looking at the users computer, etc, etc.
In addition to all of that, I also develop the SQL based reports for our helpdesk system. I cant even begin to say how convenient it is to have w3schools and my SQL Server Management console open developing my SQL queries, alas my boss does not see this.
What i guess i am looking for. Is other peoples justifications for dual monitors. As our boss is about to strip them off us (I put a second monitor on my machine whilst i was doing some documentation) and frankly.. I have 3 monitors at home, one at work is going to drive me nuts!
