DUN with Windows ME

by hotzmiller . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

I recently bought a Dell PC that came pre-loaded with Windows ME. When I dial in to my corporate LAN (NOS = WinNT 4.0 -remote access is controlled through a SHIVA LANRover), I can not browse the network. I have manually set my DNS server and also created entries in a hosts file, but no luck. I made sure I am using the same password for the NT domain, Windows ME, and the SHIVA.

I get the (sorry for paraphrasing) error message “Unable to browse the network. The network is unavailable.” if I try to access a network resource through an UNC name or browse my network places.

I can ping and telnet valid ip addresses on the LAN.

I am able to connect to a host PC using PC Anywhere. (Thankfully, so I get work done this way!)

I can also connect to the MS Exchange Server and send and receive email with MS Outlook.

Any helpful hints will be appreciated, but I’m hoping for someone who is familiar with the issue to respond. I have successfully trouble-shot DUN with win 9x and NT. ME is the puzzle, unless I am spacing out here. It wouldn’t be the first time!
