Duplicate Name on Network

by rob . Updated 23 years, 3 months ago

I have a simple development network consisting of a Win2k Adv Server, Domain: CRES; and a Win2k Pro workstation, Workgroup: CRES. The workstation can also be part of the CRES domain when the server is up (its not always). I wrote some simple batchCMD files to map shares from each machine to the other (NET USE xxxxxxx), and they used to work just fine. Suddenly, I have been having problems with a mapping failure error “A duplicate name exists on the network” when mapping from the workstationto the server. The server can do its mapping with no problem. Since there are only two PCs on the network that should be impossible (in the usual sense of the issue). I checked NBTSTAT and found three sets of UNIQUE types for the server name, andonly two GROUPs, so I presume this is the problem area, but I don’t know how that happened nor how to fix it. You assistance would be appreciated. TIA.
