DVD RAM DRIVE

by shantie . Updated 20 years, 2 months ago

Could someone explain to me what DVD Ram drive means. I have installed a lot of DVD drives and never come across this problem before.
Problem is Computer has one LG DVD Drive and one LG CD rom drive.
Both have power but do not read any discs.
In My computer click on any of the two drives and message says ‘Please put a disc into drive’. I have tried a different IDE cable. Same problem.
Both drives are in device manager, with no problems. Only thing strange in device manager has two primary IDE controllers and two secondary IDE controllers, tried to delete one of each but re-detects them on next boot. My computer only has one of each??.
I have connected another DVD drive, this worked okay, connected another CD rom drive and worked okay.
The LG DVD drive comes with a disc, with B’s Recorder software and the DVD ram Driver. Booklet says you have to put the DVD ram driver in to be able to use the DVD drive.
Tried putting the DVD ram driver in a couple of times but says Setupex.exe Path not found.
I then actually attached another CD rom drive and copied all of the driver disc to the hard drive, re-attached LG DVD drive, installed the DVD ram driver, Okay, from the hard drive but the drive still does not read discs.
Some info I got from internet says make sure “DMA if available” box is checked, this was correct and also to make sure ASPI manager was not installed which it is not.
Okay I can imagine one of the drives not working but the two of them not reading discs and both being LG, seems a bit strange. I just want to make sure that I have tried everything before I tell the lady that both drives are no good.
I have tried the DVD drive without the CD rom drive and vice versa but no go.
Did have a problem with this computer before Christmas, where some mice had got into the computer and damaged the motherboard, this was replaced with a new Asus board but I cannot see how the mice could have damaged the two drives as well, Any ideas, Thank you
