DVI Port on PC & VGA on HDMI Monitor? Can’t make it work.

I have an add-on PCI Visiontek Radeon X1300 Series Video Card in my SFF pc and I am trying to hook it to a 32″ Viewsonic Widescreen HDTV/Monitor Combo. I ran a DVI-A male to HD15 Male Analog Video Cable with the DVI-A connector on the pc and the VGA end on the monitor. I understand that plugging in this extra video card will disable the onboard video, but I can’t get the widescreen monitor to work either. Any suggestions?
