*.DXD File Type

What is a *.DXD file? I found several files with this extension on a shared drive on my network and I am not sure what they are. I found a small amount of information on the Internet that is a bit unclear, it states that these files could be *.wav files or digital files; but, I am not sure if that information is crediable or not.
