Ed Bott’s Microsoft Challenge–7/27/00

I’m looking for explanations and advice on how to configure Windows 2000 Professional so users can install and use USB hardware correctly. On my small Windows 2000 domain, users are getting an error message every time they reconnect a device that’s already been installed. The driver is there, but the only way to make the device work is to log on with administrative rights first, install the device, than let the user log on. Obviously, this is impractical for notebook users. Can you help figure out where the problem lies? Any other advice on how to automate driver installation? These drivers are the latest version but are not signed.
