Email won’t send through Exchange 5.5

We are running Outlook on our client side and Exchange 5.5 on our server side. We are able to use the Calendar function built into Outlook but cannot send email. The email just stays in the Outbox. I even hit Send/Receieve and the email just sitsthere. I believe it is a problem with Exchange but I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.
