enable CEF forwarding on cisco 7200?

hello everyone and happy new year.

I am trying to understant the exact use of CEF. Is there any particular reason for not using it?
which interfaces do not support CEF?
i have read that some traffic is not CEF swithced. Which type of traffic is that?

Any clarification on the above would be very a much help.
