Eradication of the Security Tool Virus

Has anyone found a patch or an approach to remove the Security Tool virus? My granddaughter contracted it through Facebook and none of the tricks I could think of worked (though I’m not much of a techie). None of the patches on security-based sites worked either, although some victims attested to their success as recently as Nov 11. She has AVG on her laptop but that didn’t help here.
