In exchange 2003, I updated the default recipient policy to include 2 new e-mail domains, applied the policy, did ‘update now’ in recipient update service. I am able to send mails and receive to all addresses (all suffixes). However, I wish to make one of the new addresses the primary SMTP address, so to test this, I go to AD, opened the user properties and on the e-mail tab, I made one of the just added SMTP addresses the primary SMTP. After this I am able to receive messages to any of the 3 SMTP addreses, but when I try to send orreply I get the following error
“The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
‘Jonathena Smith’ on 29/08/2007 09:57
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient’s email server. Please contact your system administrator.
”
However if I set the primary SMTP address to the original domain name, I am able to send and receive. I would like to use one of the new addresses as the primary since the company will soon be changing its name to match the new address.
N.B: The original primary SMTP address was the address which matches the AD domain name, the two additional addresses are totally different to the AD domain name but are registered to my company.
In event viewer I also get error 7004 ”
