Exchange 5.5 Disaster

Hi
Im just a techie trying to assist my administrator. We ran out of space and tried some “solutions” ended up deleting the logs and now we can’t restore the backups, cause the exchange directory service wont start without the logs. I know its outdated and we are in the process of upgrading. Its still running server 2000. But yeah exchange is down and we have about 250 users.
Please HELP.
