I’m running a Windows 2000 version of Exchange. I’m in the process of converting to 2003 so I’ve been doing some house keeping to get rid of unneeded mail before the conversion. I’ve noticed that after eliminating a little over 2GB of mail, the directory reported size of the Priv1.edb and Priv1.stm have not changed, in fact Priv1.edb has grown a little.
The nightly maintenance routing is running successfully. Event log reports id 1221-ran successfully but just 22MB of free space. I actually added all the mailbox sizes reported in Exchange server manager and the 2GB reduction is accounted for.
Now I’m going to run an offline defrag, that’s a given. I was just wondering if any-one else has seen this problem. Why doesn’t Exchange report the correct amount of free space?
