External CD Burner incompatability

by supz . Updated 23 years, 2 months ago

This is a rather lengthy question. I have an old cd burner (4x) which is external which i run on my 500 mhz cpu. I recently upgraded to Windows XP Professional (did clean install). From here, I plugged in the USB burner and had the system say that there were files contained in the HP CD Burner that made the system unstable. The software I was putting in was Roxio 3.01. I went to the updates website and after hours of trying to fix the 3 DLL files that made the CD burner not work, I found an update to 3.05 which I downloaded, and corrected those stupid DLL’s to get the burner working again. But – I use this burner frequently, or did in the past, with discjuggler and nero burning rom. Both of which do not recognise any devises attached as a burner anymore, and even after I attempted to download the patch for nero. I am running the burner on the E Drive now. I put in a disk into the D drive (cdrom) to get a program off of it, to find that it would not let me read from the D drive. I thenput that disc in the burner (e:) and got it to work. In my computer the burner is not written as HPCDWriter or something like it was before, rather something along the lines of CD Drive (E:) …and the D drive still doesnt work. Then, testing the software that came with that burner, Roxio, 3.05, I can burn CD’s through HP MyCD meaning the burner IS recognised and useable, but yet I am curious as to why discjuggler or Nero cannot see the burner…Anyone know what the heck I should do? offering 500 pts for a fix. Thank you so much
