External hard drive no longer appears

My external hard drive stopped working after I put it into an old computer (which I know for sure does not have a virus). I was aware that files could not be copied into the hard drive and when I re-opened the window, the folder was empty. Futhermore, there was a pop-up indicating that there was some data loss (to my memory as I skimmed over the pop-up and ignored it).

The hard drive is now no longer identifiable on other devices as well as the computer.

Is there a way to fix this or an explanation?
