External harddrive installation

I have a client that is working on several p4/98se systems in his shop and whould like to have a external harddrive setup so he can backup and copy info as required from various sites. He has a usb 2.0(1.1) external box with a seagate 120 mgb harddrive but cannot get any of the systems to recognize it can anyone help?
