fan CPU spin for a few then power off

by egunn . Updated 19 years, 4 months ago

Recently, I bought the following hardware components in order to upgrade my old computer;
Intel E6300 Core 2 Duo Processor (Retail version)
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Motherboard
pqi TURBO 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) 4-4-4-12(worked fine in other pcs)
Maddog 500W Power Supply (SLI Ready)(worked fine in other pcs)
Western Digital 320GB SATA II 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive(worked fine in other pcs)

After installing all the above items in the computer case, I tried to power it up for the first time. The cpu fan and system fan take about a second then start spinning then stop and the PC just powers off, no beep codes nothing. Used a screwdriver to power on PC bypassing case still the same thing.

After reading a post here, I removed the system board, CPU and its fan out of the case. The fan ran steadily without stopping if I only connected the system board to the power supply alone without the CPU and its heat sink/fan. The problem re-emerged after I installed the CPU.

Took it out and reseated it one more time and will now spin for a few minutes but I get no output. I visually inspected the socket and it looks like a couple of pins don?t line up with the rest like they are bent, but I was very Carefully and put the CPU in properly each time. I tried pulling up the pins but haven?t had much luck. Is this likely the problem? Why does it spin for a few minutes now. This was purchased at New Egg, any idea how good they are with an Replacement is cases like this?

Thank You
