Fedora Core 6 – 3D effects

Can you please tell me how to enable the 3d effects using kde or gnome. With gnome I tried to the Systems>preferences>desktop effects and received an error message stating the 3D Erffects weren’t able to be enabled. I don’t have an internet connection on my pc. I’m running FEdora Core 6
