File Sharing problems with XP

by bennie3327 . Updated 17 years ago

I have a small four computer network at home. When I try to access my computer files through my network via one of the other computers – I get an error message “You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied.” My computer is the Administrator and I have made all of the documents shared documents to the other computers.

Somehow I have managed to block file sharing to those computers from my main computer. All the other computers can share between each other and my computer can use any of their files. I worked through the various Windows XP file sharing help sessions to no avail. This morning I tried the Group Policy editor to see if that was restricting the file sharing. I also have Windows Defender and tried to work through their suggestions. Any suggestions to regaining access would be most helpful. Thanks.
