Finding a work-at-home job that actually pays

This is way O.T. from the rest of the posts here, but you are all so insightful, I just had to ask.
I currently work as an I.T. in an office, but I work at home as a computer graphics designer. When slack time comes, I’d like to find something to fill the void. Is there a computer job out there that I could do without having to pay for some list or service first? I would like to do some kind of technical writing, proofreading, etc. I’m just tired of paying for a service only to find out that the listed jobs are low paying, mind-numbing jobs that are a complete waste of my time/money. Anyone?
