I have a load balancing server configuration running Fineprint. Each server is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. Randomly the clients lock up when trying to print to a Fineprint printer.
Here are the steps I use to un-freeze the system:
1.Right click on the FinePrint Dispatcher service and left click stop
2. Right click on the print spooler service and then left click restart
3. Go back to the FinePrint Dispatcher service and right click the service and click start
4. Look to see if the service under the Status column says started or stopping.
5. The server that says started is working fine and the server that still says stopping is the one you will have to perform steps 6 ? 18 on.
6.Press Ctrl-Atl-End buttons on the failing server and left click ?Task Manager? on the screen that comes up.
7. on the next screen that comes up left click the process tab at the top
8. You will see a screen with a list of services.
9. Left click on the column header named ?Image Name? This will arrange the list in alphabetical order.
10. Then scroll down the list until you see the image name fpdisp5a.exe.
11. You will need to close out all of these image by following these steps
12. Left click the name fpdisp5a.exe to highlight the image
13. then left click the button at the bottom right of the window that says ?End Process?
14. You will need to do this to all of the fpdisp5a.exe images until they are all gone because we have no way of telling which one is the problem at this point.
15. When all of these images are gone you should be able to go back to services and see that the FinePrint Dispatcher has stopped in the status column.
16. If it does say stopped then right click on the ?Print Spooler? service and the left click restart
17. Then go to the FinePrint Dispatcher service and right click
18. Left click start.
The strange thing is that if I go in a view the print cue’s there are jobs in teh cue that have already printed but are still in the cue.
Has anyone experienced this?
