flash drives – directly plugged in = USB 2.0. With hub, they’re USB 1.1

I am using a Gateway MX8739 laptop, whose USB ports are v2.0. When plugging in USB flash drives into it, they are registered as v2.0.

But when plugging in an expansion hub, the same drives are registered as v1.1

Why would that be?
