Future Readiness for IT Managment – MIS Degree or PMP Cert…?

by kbaafi . Updated 19 years, 5 months ago

My boss wants to make me a manager for our future IT support team.

It’s a great organization for many reasons. One of them is that they will pay for all your training. Yes even a degree. Up front. None of this reimbursment garbage.

In being prepared for the future I am looking for advice on the best way to proceed.

Here we go …

Option 1:
If I get the degree in MIS it would take about three years (full-time). Of course it could take about six or more years if I did it part-time.

Option 2:
Complete the PMP designation, and perhaps do get the ITIL designation on top as well. But one thing at a time.

My big question is what path will allow me to be competitive, prepared, and ready to face this challenge.

Tip: As you advise please give me some pros and cons to your discussion.

Thanks for your thoughts…
