General firewall best practices/policies?

Hi,
Just started a new job and for now I have inherited the task of cleaning up our firewall policies. Just wondering if anybody could recommend some general guidelines or point me in the direction of a good place to get an idea of what types of things to consider. I’ve managed firewalls in the past, however I haven’t actually gone through the process of creating the policies so I was just looking for a little guidance.
