Getting Blue Screen with SMEFS.SYS Error

Getting blue screen on boot up on a Win 2k machine. Boots into safe mode with no problems.
The blue screen indicates smefs.sys error. I tried to remove the last install which was IE 6.0 SP1 out of windows componens. Please advise?
