Getting Filetype apart from using File E

Is there any way i can get the Type of the File by passing just the fullname.
For example,if i say “MYdoc.Doc” ,it should get the result by looking at the content and say “Microsoft Word’97”.
I am interested to know, is there any component or API available in market to achieve the above.
